*ahem* I am SO sick and fucking tired of people thinking that by supporting Peta, they're helping animals.

To them, first of all, i say: [link]

"From July 1998 through the end of 2004, PETA killed over 12,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals" -- at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. That's more than five defenseless animals every day. Not counting the dogs and cats PETA spayed and neutered, the group put to death over 85 percent of the animals it took in during 2003 alone. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing."

So... Think about that. Seriously. They protest groups like the humane society for putting animals to sleep when they can't place them, but they turn around and euthanize animals who've committed NO crime whatsoever except for being domesticated. They're not killing old and feeble, unadoptable pets. Many of these are completely adoptable. Peta doesn't want animals to be kept as pets. Even by the nicest, most caring owners. TOTAL ANIMAL LIBERATION. That includes YOUR pets. You give Peta your money, and go home to play with the dog that if they had their way, would be out in the "wild" living a "better life" than he would with you.

Hence, better fed than dead. I truly believe that if an animal is not in pain, or has the potential to live free of pain, it would be better off alive and in a caring, happy home. Peta doesn't share this belief. They hide behind "animal rights" but really only care about their own agenda. Did they ask all those dogs and cats and various other animals if they'd rather be dead than be "forced" into a life of "servitude" as a pet? I seriously doubt it. I ask my cat often if she'd rather be a wild animal, by opening the door and letting her look out there. You know what she chooses? My lap, her food bowl, and a sleeping spot by the heating vent. I really don't think that she's being "exploited" by being my companion.

My personal dealings with Peta have been OUTRAGEOUS. I had to FIGHT a Peta member to adpot my iguana, Frankenstein. Frankenstein was a senior iguana citizen, and had a few bad health problems, including stomititis in her mouth, septicimia, metabolic bone disease, a ruptured eye, a fractured nose and broken arm, and I was fully prepared to fork out the money and time to adopt her, and nurse her back to health. A Peta member did not want me to do so, she wanted to take her and put her down, because reptiles shouldn't be pets. So think about that. Instead of letting somebody take her home, nurse her back to health, and let her live out her senior years in joyful gluttony, they wanted to put her down, and take pictures of her corpse for a campaign against Petco. Nevermind the fact that the iguana didn't even COME from Petco, originally.

What else? Recently, when trying to buy rats from Petco for my snake, I was told by the employee that Peta had been spying on them, and did not want the rats to be food, so he couldn't sell me one. I was like "what the FUCK?" When I wrote a letter to Peta to ask why exactly a few rats in a pet store had more right to live than my little Oolong, I received a bullshit form letter about how bad Petco was, and how inhumane the conditions they kept their rodents were. Nothing, NOWHERE in the letter did they answer my questions, or give me one good reason why my snake had less rights than another animal.

Speaking of reptiles... When I worked at Petco a few years ago, I sent them pictures of starving corn snakes and dying water dragons from the reptile department. They had this whistle-blower program, where if you worked at Petco and gave them pictures of cruelty, they'd pay you 200 bucks and use the pictures to help the animals out. They told me they only wanted pictures of the rodent and bird department. Why? I never got an answer, but apparently only "cuddly" animals show up on Peta's radar. If you're scaley, then FUCK YOU.
